A tour of the interface
TrakState has two halves: the work surfaces, where you handle data, and the settings, where you decide what exists in the first place.
The top bar
Section titled “The top bar”Along the top are the applications installed in your plant — depending on the build, that might be dashboards and capture. On the right are the light/dark and language switches, and your user menu.
The command palette is reachable from anywhere. It searches actions, pages and help topics in one list — usually the fastest route when you know what you want but not where it lives.
The left rail
Section titled “The left rail”On the left is where you can go: Home at the top, the menu entries set up for you below it, and Settings at the foot.
The rail can be collapsed. The Collapse navigation button at the foot of the rail shrinks it to its icons, and the same button expands it again. Collapsed, every entry is still there — point at an icon and its name appears. A folder opens its contents in a box beside the rail.
Set the width at the dividing line on the right of the rail. Drag it far enough to the left and the rail snaps to its icon strip; dragged back to the right, it expands again. A double-click on the dividing line restores the default width. TrakState remembers both for this browser.
In the settings and while editing the menu, the rail stays expanded: the entries there have no icons. On a narrow screen the rail is a drawer behind the menu button at the top left; there is neither button nor dividing line there.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”Everything that describes the plant lives under Settings, in this order:
| Area | What for |
|---|---|
| Plugins | installed extensions, the catalogue and your signing keys |
| Templates | load a whole configuration, save it or upload one |
| Database | record types and their fields — the data model |
| Tags | the named values and where they come from |
| Screens | read-only links for wall screens that run unattended |
| Translations | your own words in a second language |
| Connections | the wire to the plant |
| Scripts | procedures and their triggers |
| Audit trail | who changed what, and when |
| Linked systems | couplings to another TrakState installation |
| License | what this installation is licensed for |
Below them come the areas an installed plugin adds — for example User management.
Putting a board on a wall screen
Section titled “Putting a board on a wall screen”A wall screen does not sign in. It gets a link of its own that may only read and can be revoked at any time.
- Release the board: in the menu editor, set Allow on kiosk display on the board’s entry.
- Under Settings → Screens, enter a name and pick the board under View. Exactly the released menu entries are offered — an empty list means none is released yet.
- Create link and copy the link shown. It appears only this once.
Send this link, not the address a browser lands on after opening it. The access lives in the browser that opened the link; the same address in another browser leads to the sign-in.
How a detail page is laid out
Section titled “How a detail page is laid out”The pages for tags and scripts follow the same pattern: the list or tree on the left, what you are editing in the middle, and a band at the bottom for runs, messages and problems. The dividers between the bands can be dragged; TrakState remembers your layout.
When something is unclear
Section titled “When something is unclear”Many labels carry a short explanation: point at one and it appears. A click makes the box stay — from there you can jump into the help panel or into this Help Center.
There are two ways into the panel, and they answer different questions:
- The question mark at the top right opens the contents — every chapter of this manual. The article for the page you are standing on sits at the top of it.
- F1 opens that article directly. Pressing it again closes the panel.
Inside the panel there is always a way out. Above the text is the path that led there (Contents › Chapter), and both parts are clickable. The two arrows to their left step back and forward through what you have read in the panel. Below the text are the previous and the next article, so the manual can be read front to back. The search box at the top searches every chapter.
